Brazil bounced back from a poor performance against Ecuador to down Peru 3-0 in a match the coach described as tepid.
“Maybe if the opposition was stronger, the crowd would have been more excited,” said Dunga. “As we scored the goals quickly, the game became a bit tepid.”
This may have explained why Dunga replaced Robinho for former Internacional player and crowd favourite Alexandre Pato. The fans were chanting Pato’s name from the very start and demanded Dunga put him. However, they had to wait until the 69th minute which probably explains why they weren’t excited for most of the game.
When Pato entered the field, the Stadium of Beira-Rio vibrated from the excitement of the fans who finally got their wish. It has been Patomania for the last three days with posters and banners of Pato being displayed during the teams training sessions in Porto Alegra. Pato was like a pop star when he played for Internacional and judging by the fans reactions last night it seems like he still is.
