Milan one big happy family says Pato

Milan have been on fire since a poor start to the season under Leonardo. The new coach on the block was under threat after losing the first few games. However, his persistance and attacking mentality has helped him turn the season around.

Milan are currently second on the Serie A table and also very close to heading into the Champions League quarter-finals.

The noticeable difference in the squad is that Ronaldinho looks more lively and that Milan are able to find the back of the net more often.

Pato who has been a major contributor has said that they success of the team is due to the group being so close.

“Our secret is the group we have. We are very close. When I arrived at Milan, told me that everything here was a family and now I see that this sentiment is true,” said Pato.

Milan will play FC Zurich on Tuesday in a must win game if they want to advance pass the group stage.

Biography

Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva (born September 2, 1989, in Pato Branco, Paraná), better known as Alexandre Pato, is a Brazilian Football (soccer) positions striker who plays for AC Milan. He had previously played for Sport Club Internacional between 2001 and 2007 for both the youth club and the senior team. In August 2007 he signed a contract with AC Milan. One of his nicknames, The Duck, comes from the city where he was born, Pato Branco (which translates as Duck). His playing style and technique have also earned him the nickname of “The New Ronaldo”.
Early life

Alexandre started playing indoor football (futsal) in his hometown at the age of 3. Soon his ability became known all around the south Brazilian state of Paraná and, after being praised by many of his managers, the teenager went to Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, to try out for Gremio, his favourite team as a child. However, his family decided that he should sign for Sport Club Internacional. In 2001, at the age of 11, he moved there and started sharing housing with 83 other teenagers that, much like him, wanted to make a name for themselves in the Inter first team.
Career

After a contract settlement that boosted the player’s salary from R$3,000 to R$25,000 and extended his stay until 2009 with a release fee of $35 million, Pato was finally considered ready to start a game in the Brazilian football league.

On his first team debut, at the age of 17, Pato helped Internacional to a 4-1 win over Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras on November 26, 2006. Pato had 3 assists and scored a goal. His appearance put the spotlight on the young player and created expectations and comparisons with another southern Brazilian superstar, FC Barcelona player Ronaldinho.

Pato scored Sport Club Internacional’s first goal of the FIFA Club World Cup on December 13 in the semi-final game against Al-Ahly, helping the team win 2-1 and a spot in the final. He was taken off the field during the second half because of cramp in his right leg and his substitute scored the second, and winning goal, of the game.

Before his team’s match against Barcelona in the final of the competition, Barça’s Brazilian star Ronaldinho identified Pato as a player to watch in Brazilian football. Pato failed to impress during the match and was substituted before teammate Carlos Adriano de Souza Vieira scored the winner, ensuring the title for Internacional.

He helped Brazil national football team win the 2007 South American Youth Championship in Paraguay, which qualified the country for both the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada and the Football at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. He was Brazil’s leading scorer in the tournament with three goals.

Pato was linked to several high profile clubs including AC Milan, Benfica, Juventus, F.C. Internazionale Milano, Liverpool F.C., Chelsea F.C. and Arsenal F.C..

AC Milan officially confirmed the signing of Pato on August 2, 2007. The transfer fee paid amounts to the minimum fee clause in Pato’s contract with SC Internacional, US$ 20 million. Due to Italian football regulations that state non-EU minors may not be registered in Italy, Pato will not be able to play official matches for Milan until January 3, 2008, when the Italian transfer window (and registration) reopens. However, AC Milan will be allowed to include the player in exhibition matches and training beginning September 3, 2007, one day after his 18th birthday. Pato made his non-competitive debut against FC Dynamo Kyiv on the 7th of September 2007 and scored a header.

He was voted best under 20 talent in the world in Match! magazine and World Soccer in September 2007.

Dunga excludes Pato from Squad to face England and Oman

Dunga has surprisingly excluded Alexandre Pato from the Brazilian squad, as they take on England in Bahrain and then Oman three days later. Pato has scored nearly every game since his remarkable performance at the Bernabeu but Dunga has favoured Porto striker Hulk to take his place.

Even when Dunga did choose to add Pato to the squad, he rarely used him. It obviously isn’t a question of form with Dunga, as Pato has been in great form with AC Milan and still he has not been given a place on Dunga’s list.

Here’s the list of players selected,

Goalkeepers: Julio Cesar (Inter), Doni (AS Roma).

Defenders: Maicon (Inter), Lucio (Inter), Daniel Alves (Barcelona), Luisao (Benfica), Juan (AS Roma), Naldo (Werder Bremen), Fabio Aurelio (Liverpool)

Midfielders: Michel Bastos (Olympique Lyon), Gilberto Silva (Panathinaikos), Josue (VfL Wolfsburg), Lucas (Liverpool), Felipe Melo (Juventus), Alex (Chelsea), Julio Baptista (AS Roma), Carlos Eduardo (TSG Hoffenheim), Ramires (Benfica), Elano (Galatasaray), Kaka (Real Madrid)

Attackers: Robinho (Manchester City), Luis Fabiano (Sevilla), Nilmar (Villarreal), Hulk (FC Porto)

Pato to Chelsea…I don’t think so!

Ancelotti’s move to Chelsea has prompted speculation that Pato and Kaka would join him next season in the Premier League. However, this is only a dream for all Chelsea fans as Kaka is on the brink of signing with Real Madrid and Pato has dismissed all rumours linking him to Chelsea.

The Brazilian told Gazzetta dello Sport: “I have read the reports linking me with Chelsea, but my agent and the club deal with this type of thing.

“I want to win everything with Milan.”

Rated at £45 million and scoring 15 goals in Serie A would make it hard for Milan to let Pato go, especially when there isn’t many strikers out there in the market to replace him.

Although, Pato did not dismiss the fact that Kaka might be leaving Milan very soon but hopes that the deal works out for all those involved.

“I just hope that everybody will be happy in the end: Kaka, Milan and Real. Or, perhaps, even Chelsea, who are also interested in ‘Ricky’,” he added.

“I’m sure that Kaka will make the right choice for him and for Milan.”

Is this Pato exposing himself on a webcam?

Alexandre Pato has been hailed by AC Milan teammate David Beckham as one of the brightest hopes for the future of football, but his skill on the pitch may soon be overshadowed by his tendency to get his junk out in front of a webcam.

A video on Brazil’s most popular humour blog (warning: incredibly NSFW link) suggests that the nineteen-year-old was targeted by a fake internet groupie named ‘The Blond of The Internet’. Undeterred by this ridiculously suspicious moniker, the excitable Brazilian was allegedly lured into removing his clothes during a webcam chat with said fake groupie.

It’s not 100 per cent certain that the star of this video is Pato, but we know he is partial to trawling the web for ladies: he met his WAG Stephany Brito online.

You can check out this very very NSFW link to the video if you enjoy making instantly regrettable decisions, but don’t blame us if you end up burning your laptop in a bucket afterwards.

Galliani worry Pato

This season a success despite no contribution from Alexandre Pato. Youth Brazilian origin that has become one of the key players.

The opposite is also understanding the Milan will not be able to do much if Pato off. Even in the statistical record, Pato included in one of the players who often get the offense.

Fact makes Milan vice president Adriano Gallinai little worried. He also ask the judge to protect one of the better players are young.

"I worry that with the treatment received. Always the same story only we each pay a visit, and things that happened in Napoli and Verona in the now," said Galliani to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He often intimidated in the beginning of the minute-minute and then he experienced difficulties. This is already estimated, the opponent team to play hard on it since the beginning of the match."

PaToNiSTi invites the readers to vote on who is the top young player under the age of 23 in Italy’s Serie A this year. To this end we ask readers to select which of the following players can be considered the best of the new batch in Italy. Perhaps Mario Balotelli, the Inter forward? Or Cristian Zapata, the young Colombian defender who is being tracked by Arsenal as he continues to impress for Udinese? Here’s the list in full:

Chievo Verona 0-1 AC Milan

Clarence Seedorf rounded off a glorious team goal to sink struggling Chievo and strengthen AC Milan's bid for Champions League qualification.

The veteran Dutchman guided the ball past Stefano Sorrentino early in the second half after Marek Jankulovski and Filippo Inzaghi had both turned down shooting chances to set him up.

Milan did not have it all their own way, though, and boss Carlo Ancelotti had to watch most of the game from the stands after protesting too much over a first-half free-kick.

And he was forced to endure a nervous finish, Sergio Pellissier seeing what would have been an equaliser ruled out for offside and Dida brilliantly saving from Giuseppe Colucci.

Chievo started brightly and Philippe Senderos had to be alert to cut out Giampiero Pinzi's pass before it found Pellissier closing in on goal after just four minutes.

At the other end Inzaghi reacted quickest after Andrea Pirlo's free-kick deflected off the wall, but his header was off target.

Dida made his first crucial contribution to push Pinzi's header from Pellissier's cross over the bar before Ancelotti was sent from the touchline in the 37th minute.

He almost saw his side go ahead six minutes later when Sorrentino dropped Gianluca Zambrotta's cross amid a crowd of players, Santiago Morero hacking the ball away for a corner.

Milan were starting to find their rhythm and fine play from Kaka earned them a free-kick five minutes after the break.

Pirlo took the set-piece and forced an excellent low save from Sorrentino.

The Chievo goalkeeper was powerless to prevent a picture-book Milan opener in the 53rd minute, though.

Alexandre Pato raced down the left wing before passing to Jankulovski, who decided against shooting and passed to Inzaghi at the far post.

The evergreen frontman also opted not to pull the trigger, instead pulling the ball back to Seedorf on the edge of the area whose precise shot beat Sorrentino.

Chievo showed real spirit in their attempts to get back on level terms and Giuseppe Favalli had to clear hurriedly after Dida had spilt a Colucci shot.

Pellissier then found the net from a free-kick in the 66th minute, but the effort was disallowed as both Santiago Morero and Erjon Bogdani were in offside positions.

Andrea Mantovani kept Chievo in the contest when he cut out Kaka's cross, heading the ball narrowly over his own crossbar with Sorrentino nowhere.

And that intervention might have proved crucial were it not for a splendid late save from Dida.

Four minutes after Pellissier had fired a left-footed shot just over his crossbar, the Brazilian did superbly to deny Colucci after the Chievo man had found himself in space on the edge of the area.

But that chance with 12 minutes remaining was Chievo's last of the game as Milan closed out the win and strengthened their grip on third place.

About Alexandre Pato

Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva (born September 2, 1989, in Pato Branco, Paraná), better known as Alexandre Pato, is a Brazilian Football (soccer) positions striker who plays for AC Milan. He had previously played for Sport Club Internacional between 2001 and 2007 for both the youth club and the senior team. In August 2007 he signed a contract with AC Milan. One of his nicknames, The Duck, comes from the city where he was born, Pato Branco (which translates as White Duck).

Relationship between Carlo Ancelotti and Dunga turns sour

Dunga has been a raising hairs everywhere since taking over the Brazilian team and this time it is Milan and Carlo Ancelotti that has been caught in the crossfire.

AC Milan has openly criticised Dunga for causing the ongoing saga over Kaka’s injury after reports surfaced that Kaka was not happy with the Milan doctors.

“In six days with the Brazilian team doctors I have improved more than in five weeks with those of Milan,” Kaka stated in an interview when he was in Brazil.

However, Gatusso and Milan believe that Kaka did not say such a thing and Dunga is the person behind it all.

“The controversy on the evolution of his injury was started by Dunga, not Kaka. I know players of other teams who choose Milan Lab to come and cure themselves, and this says it all. The daily report of our injuries goes through the hands of Adriano Galliani every day, and he’s very precise and very present, therefore there are no problems,” stated Gatusso.

“The only problem about Kaka was that of time, as it was predicted that he could return in 15 days, but then, as it happens every day to those who work in any company, the injury, in his case the pain, was not solved in the expected times. That’s all,” concluded Gattuso

Carlo Ancelotti has also spoken out about how he is surprised that Dunga is not playing Pato more and the lack of communication for the Brazilian coach.

“I was unpleasantly surprised by how little Dunga uses him. At the start he didn’t play much with us either, but he lacked experience. However, he slowly worked his way into the team and now he’s doing very well,” said Ancelotti.

“Also in this case I want to tell Dunga that if he wants to know about a player’s condition, he should contact me, like Lippi always does,” added an angry Ancelotti.

AC Milan Chief Leonardo has been quick to insist that the friendship between Dunga and Milan is still very strong.

“What happened with the coach of Brazil in recent days is due to a lack of communication,” said Leonardo. “Our relationship with the Brazilian national team is really good, there will be more and more communication.”

Interview with Alexandre Pato

FIFA.com: Looking back to where it all began, you made your first start for Internacional in the Brazilian championship at 17. Was that a dream come true?
Pato: My first competitive game ended up being a victory that I played a big role in. I made an assist for the team and scored my first goal. My debut remains a wonderful memory.

A few weeks later, in Japan, you started against Ahly Sporting Club in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup. Aged just 17 years and 102 days, you became the youngest player to score in a senior FIFA competition, beating the record set by a certain Pele. What did that mean to you?
It was huge. A month after making my debut, I heard people talking about my performances, saying: ‘Pato has scored so many goals so young. He’s a new phenomenon.’ What was happening to me was flattering and exceptional. But reputation isn’t enough alone; you also need luck and I had that too, given I went to Japan with one of the best clubs around at the time, Internacional.

You have scored a lot of goals but you also excel with your final ball. Do you see yourself more as a team player or an individual talent?
I always want to score. I repeat that over and over to myself in my head. But, if I can’t manage to score goals, I need to extend myself to help my team. Football is a game of 11 players and if we don’t help each other out, we don’t get anywhere. If we play together, the goals come naturally.

Inter, Chelsea and Real Madrid were all interested in signing you, so why did you join AC Milan?
My choice was influenced by my family and my agent. Lots of Brazilians play at the club, such as Emerson, who I already knew. When I announced my decision to my parents, they told me: ‘Off you go, we’re certain you’ll have a fantastic career.’

You joined Milan in summer 2007, but the rules stopped you from making your debut until the following year. How hard was that to live with?
Those four months without playing allowed me to get integrated into the squad. I took part in all the training sessions and all the away trips. I was able to soak in Italian football. After that, 2008 was a total pleasure on a personal front. I made my debut in my new colours, I scored my first goals and I kept progressing. Next year, I hope we go far in the UEFA Cup and that we’ll play in the Champions League next season.

You are surrounded by Brazilians at Milan. Has that made it easier for you to settle in?
When I arrived, I didn’t speak Italian. The Brazilians at the club, among others, have been incredible in helping me settle, both in sporting and non-sporting terms. To this day, we still dine together often and share the same pursuits.

One of those Brazilian players was, of course, Ronaldo, with whom you played last year. You have never hidden your admiration for him.
To play alongside him was a moment I will carry in my heart for the rest of my life. When I was a kid, out on the pitch I always used to say to my friends ‘I’m Ronaldo, I’m Ronaldo,’ while wearing the shirt of my idol. I hope to have a career as successful as his.

Moving on to the national team, with just one defeat and the best defence in South America, how do you think the remainder of your qualifying campaign for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ will go?
Right now, Brazil are in a good position to qualify. We’re second, six points behind the leaders. Paraguay have played some really good football and taken some very important points from difficult matches. For our part, we’ve dropped lots of points at home. Every home game is a challenge for our opponents. They’re spurred on by the stakes and always want to outdo themselves because they’re up against Brazil. As for us, we need to constantly give everything, particularly for all the people who support us. That’s why every single one of my call-ups gives me joy and pride.

Your life has also been marked by some less than joyous events. At the age of ten, you were diagnosed with a tumour. How did you cope with that difficult period?
It was very painful. After the operation, another complication was discovered. I had to have several injections. It’s an ordeal that is part of who I am because my mother was alongside me and we both cried together. It was really difficult. That chapter in my life made me grow up and the support of my family was crucial.

On a more positive note, how are you coping with your increasing popularity?
When I see all these people asking me for a photo or an autograph, it makes me happy. Not so long ago, I also wanted to get souvenirs of my idols. So I understand and I don’t want to disappoint them, especially when we’re talking about children. And when I hear my name being chanted in the stands, it fires me up to give even more on the pitch.

What are your personal goals with both club and country?
With AC Milan, my target is to win as many trophies as possible in Italy and on the international stage. With Brazil, it’s to be crowned world champion! I also want to become the best player in the world.

Lastly, lots of Brazilian players have their own unique move, such as the ‘elastico’ perfected by Ronaldinho. Are you working on one yourself?
Now that I’m playing with Ronaldinho, it’s easy for me to draw inspiration from him. As for the move, one day perhaps! The thing that characterises me most is probably the dribble at speed. Perhaps that will end up being called a Pato (laughs).

Beira-Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre is the home ground of the Brazilian club Internacional. As a former Internacional player, Pato expressed that he will never forget his return to the stadium when Brazil played Peru.Pato was the player that everyone wanted to see and the fans made this clear from the very start. The fans chanted Pato’s name throughout the game and as the clock was ticking down the crowd was getting frustrated and took their anger out on Robinho everytime the player made a mistake. When Dunga finally made the substitution to put Pato on in place of Robinho, the fans reaction was like a goal scoring celebration.“I was very happy with the affection of all. They are moments that I will remember for the rest of life. I received much affection. It was perfect. It was like returning to play for Inter,” said Pato.Over the three days that the Brazilian team were in Porto Alegre, the fans created posters and banners of Alexandre Pato. The fans call for Pato and so does Dunga

Brazil bounced back from a poor performance against Ecuador to down Peru 3-0 in a match the coach described as tepid.

“Maybe if the opposition was stronger, the crowd would have been more excited,” said Dunga. “As we scored the goals quickly, the game became a bit tepid.”

This may have explained why Dunga replaced Robinho for former Internacional player and crowd favourite Alexandre Pato. The fans were chanting Pato’s name from the very start and demanded Dunga put him. However, they had to wait until the 69th minute which probably explains why they weren’t excited for most of the game.

When Pato entered the field, the Stadium of Beira-Rio vibrated from the excitement of the fans who finally got their wish. It has been Patomania for the last three days with posters and banners of Pato being displayed during the teams training sessions in Porto Alegra. Pato was like a pop star when he played for Internacional and judging by the fans reactions last night it seems like he still is.

Alexandre Pato hoping to play against Peru

Alexandre Pato did not feature in the World Cup qualifier against Ecuador and this may be the reason why the Selecao only managed a draw. Brazil will now face Peru tomorrow at the Biera Rio Stadium in Porto Alegre and pato is hoping to bring back some good memories.

Pato’s debut for International and the beginning of his professional career was at Biera Rio Stadium so he is hoping to re-live the moment with Brazil. Described as one of the greatest revelations of International in recent years, Pato hit the net 12 times in 27 games before being hired by Milan in 2007.

“I work hard for a chance to play at Beira-Rio. It is an important game for me. I see the stadium full of Inter fans. I go to the game hoping to play so that I can return the affection that the fans have given me for a long time,” said Pato.

Although Pato is the top scorer for his club, he has not been Dunga’s first choice so it will be unlikely that he will start but lets hope Pato comes in as a Substitution and scores within the first few minutes just like Batista did in the last game.

Inside Pato’s Home

The third episode of ‘On the road with Galvão” will feature Alexandre Pato. The show will be aired this Sunday on Brazilian TV so most of us will miss out but hopefully we can get a clip for this site.

In an interview with Galvão Bueno, The Duck talks about his romance with Stefany Brito and shows exclusive photos of the couple. Milan’s Wonderkid Pato: ” We will be back to the Champions League Next Year”

It seems that the champions league has become an obsession rather than just a desire for Pato. He has declared that he wants to lift Milan back to the top of the world. The Brazilian Wonder kid, who has scored 12 goals this season, is touted to be the next big thing in football. It’s easy to see why he’s rated that highly when one looks at the brilliant performances he has done this year.

Interviewed by the Gazzetta, Pato talked about Milan’s Situation, his fellow teammates, his role model, and Milan’s long rival Inter Milan.

The interview with Pato started with the reporter telling Pato that Milan’s upcoming games against Siena isn’t hard and isn’t vital for qualifying for the champions league, however Pato thought otherwise and had this to say about the subject: ” You’re wrong, te trip to Siena is really important for us and we are ready to win against Siena backing our win against Atalanta. The important thing is to not look at the mistakes; we should hold our heads up high and look into the future.”

When asked about Milan’s season and how does he rate his performance for this year, he said the following:” Milan’s season wasn’t good, we got kicked out of the Scudetto race, Coppa Italia, and the Uefa Cup”. We suffered a lot this season, especially against teams like Torino, Genoa and Lecce. We should have been more vital and determined in front of the goal, especially me. About his performance: “I leave the ratings for you. I have 12 goals this season in the league; I try to give the best performance possible.

Talking about his role model, Ronaldo, Pato was delighted that Ronaldo came back to his scoring ways: ” I was in front of the tv and I enjoyed it a lot. I’m really glad for him since he really suffered a lot and totally deserved this.”. The reported tried to put Pato in a critical situation when he[Reporter] told him[Pato] that Ronaldo was overweight, Pato’s response came quick and smart: If he is in this weight and he’s scoring imagine how he would be when he is in his best physical shape. Ronaldo is a role model for me, he suffered a lot of serious injuries but always came back; it’s something hard to believe.” Pato added the following about Ronaldo and Brazil: Ronaldo gave a lot to Brazil, but I do believe he can still give more. In Brazil there are several special players, but Ronaldo is a phenomenon.”

The reporter asked Pato about Milan’s goals, who were quite big at the beginning, but now have slimmed down to a Champions League Spot: ” Milan has won a lot, the fans and the critics are used to seeing Milan win which is a normal thing, but we will be back to the Champions League and we’re going there to win it all; in a nutshell we have to open a new round.”

About the champions league exit of the Italian club, Pato’s answer was direct and easy: “The English teams that faced the Italian teams are stronger, that’s the explanation of the matter.” Pato then continued his interview first talking about Balotteli’s condition after the Manchester United loss, saying:” I heard he was really disappointed.” He then talked about the much controversial “Special One”: He talked to me after the derby, for me he seems to be a good guy, but I dont know…”

Pato then said that either Barcelona or Manchester United will win the champions league, he also said that Barcelona are great, performance wise, but he prefers Real Madrid.

He then talked about his 4 teammates: Kaka’, Inzaghi, Ronaldinho, and Beckham:

About Kaka’, Pato said: “I run with the ball really fast, but Kaka’ runs really fast with the ball stuck to his feet, he really impresses me.”

Then, Pato spoke about Inzaghi, saying:” You should always study Inzaghi’s moves in the penalty area, he’s stronger than ever, and I need to learn to take eveyr ball in the penalty zone like Pippo.”

About Ronaldinho: “There’s no secret but you have to know when to move when the ball is in Dinho’s possession, when he’s got the ball you have to be in the right place at the right time; he also helps me a lot.”

Then Pato spoke a little about Becks: “His set pieces are really dangerous and he knows how to pass the ball always, also his crossed balls that turn in front of the strikers’ heads are awesome.”

The reporter than told Pato that: They say in addition to being good in the field you have to be also strong driving your car, Pato answered: I always respect the speed limits, but I did get a fine one time.” The reporter was quick to ask what that ticket was: In the parking space I was an idiot, I left the car at the airport and when I came back the car had been taken by the police; I’ve became better now.”

The interview was coming to an end when the reporter asked Pato about his message to the Milan Fans: “I can’t help but thank them, we haven’t been alright lately but they have always been with us which is really important. I repeat we will go back to the Champions League next year and after that next season we will do our best to win everything.” The reporter asked if those achievements would be with Carlo or someone else, Pato answered:” You’re Kidding? Yes, with Ancelotti. There’s no better coach out there”.
